First, my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience due to the sudden, unexpected "postponement" of the Twin Cities Film Festival's screening of THE DARKEST LIGHT. We were notified the night before. No, I was given no explanation as to why. If you purchased tickets through the festival, I understand they have been refunded. If you did not receive a refund, please contact them directly. I hope they will reschedule at a later date.
Meanwhile, it's on to DOC NYC and I am so excited to be going. Although our screening on Sunday, November 15th is officially sold out (rush tickets may be available) there are tickets for a second screening on November 18th, as well as streaming passes. I will be part of the panel discussion after the screening on the 15th. DOC NYC is a major festival for documentaries, and I am over the moon that we get to be a part of it.
Speaking of documentaries, I went to see PAGING HEZBOLLAH yesterday. It was at the local AMC; it's all over the place. If you don't know a lot about Lebanon, Syria, or Iran, this is a highly informative explanation of how Lebanon went from being a very western, peaceful society to becoming a war zone. At the center is, amazingly enough, Iran the puppet-master and destroyer of all things modern. The pager plot was an ingenious, carefully crafted operation by Mossad to demonstrate how easy it was to hogtie their operations. It is masterful spy-craft that makes James Bond look like an amateur. See, it isn't all about Hamas, although they get the most attention. Hezbollah is a agent provocateur for Iran. Less is known about them, and that is intentional. If you question why, go see the film. In 93 minutes, you will have a better grasp on the Middle East that you didn't know you needed.
On an even more depressing note, I broke down and voted this morning. I was gonna wait until tomorrow, but..... Governor was no contest, St. Amy all the way. While I don't always agree with her, there is no real choice between her and Lisa Demuth who flat out lied to the parents of the Annunciation children when she promised to make sure a bi-partisan gun bill passed in our state senate would be heard in the house chamber. As speaker, she blocked the bill. See, her 4 kids were on campus at Rocori when the school shooting took place there. One might think (erroneously) that she would be in favor of children living. Apparently, she is not. Even her own daughter was horrified:
Lisa Demuth's daughter Shelisa Demuth was 15 years old when she survived the 2003 Rocori High School shooting in Cold Spring. Shelisa Demuth has in recent days publicly criticized her mother, writing on Threads, "Imagine being the first House Speaker in state history who is also the mother of two school shooting victims and conveniently deferring a gun control bill to the next legislative session."
That was the easy one. Congressional elections are not so easy. Both DFL candidates, senator and MN2 are both democratic socialists. Peggy Flanagan is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, yet she cannot grok the concept that Jews are indigenous to Israel much less have a right to defend themselves from terrorists. She's running on a progressive, anti-establishment kinda platform. Who knows what that really means? Her opponent, Michele Tafoya is a sideline football commentator. Great...she's good at hyperbole. She's also good at bobbing, weaving, spinning, and, well, lying. My favorite is when she says she's a "pro-choice Republican," when she supports banning all abortions after 12 weeks. She also supported the overturn of Roe v. Wade. She has stated that she is "completely aligned" with President Felon on abortion and wants to see judges in place who will further restrict a woman's reproductive rights. Does that sound pro-choice to you????? Didn't think so.
And to replace Angie Craig, we have Matt Little-brain. I heard him speak at the primary candidate forum and was less than impressed. From his platform on foreign affairs:
Policy Goals: His platform calls for halting weapons shipments, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, dismantling illegal settlements in Palestinian territories, and working toward a negotiated two-state solution.Another progressive democratic socialist who apparently has no clue about Israel, Gaza, Palestine, or settlements. Even if someone offered to send him to Israel, I doubt he'd go because he might have to actually see what it's like there. Besides, what weapons shipments is he talking about? Shipments to Israel? Shipments to Gaza? Or Hezbollah? Beats the heck outta me. His opponent, on the other hand, seems to be totally clueless about what a Congressclown actually does.

Sometimes, when you vote,
you just have to hold your nose.
